Athens may seem to be a sleepy little river town on the Hudson, but in 2004 it again became part of Hollywood legend*.  Steven Spielberg chose it, Second Street down by the river, to be precise, to be the site of the escape scene in his remake of the film War of the Worlds; W. O. W. for short.  The movie producers culled extras from the townsfolk, and one of my parishioners can be seen in the crowd.  (That is, if you really, really search for him!)

The filming was going on while the annual Christmas greeting was in the works that year, and as a play on what was going on in town mixed with wonder at what God has done for us in becoming human, I named the tune "Wow".

* I say "again" because it was a venue in the film Silkwood, too.
