Early in my ministry at the First Presbyterian Church of Matawan, New Jersey, I attempted to chisel out a niche for middle-school students who shied away from singing and hand bells.  In one of our sessions, we were working with tuned Orff instruments: xylophones and metallophones, and the pentatonic scale.  The task for the students was to compose a melody to a text they chose from among vetted selections.  While the group developed their tunes, I wrote this one, offering to name it after the person whose tune was either finished first or was most musical out of the bunch.    Michael and Kara Spencer were the only ones to complete the assignment in the time allotted; happily for me they shared a last name and I was not obliged to judge between the two siblings' work for whose piece was "better".
